Honey Suzuki (ハニー・鈴木 ), also referred to as Honey, is a minor character in Macross 7. He is a producer at Sweet Velvet Music Productions and would later manage the military music group Jamming Birds, a would-be rival of Sound Force.
Personality & Character[]
“ | A professional's job isn't just self-satisfaction, the audience has to be able to appreciate it too. | ” |
—Honey |
As a long time producer in the music industry, Honey Suzuki believes he knows all the necessary elements to make a hit song: It has to be fashionable, have a popular medley, and be easy to understand. He is quick to dismiss people unable to see it his way, saying that they are "not professionals".
Basara Nekki's work habits especially irk him, as he tends to push back on his managerial style and then run away mid-rehearsals. Suzuki insists on everyone addressing him by his moniker "Honey" on a regular basis.
History[]
“ | Who knows what they're thinking. It's a sad day when there are no more professionals! | ” |
—Honey |
Suzuki's company was initially the one going to handle Fire Bomber's recording and promotion, but his insistence on controlling the style of the band invoked the ire of Basara Nekki, making the latter walk out of the recording session.
After Mylene was able to convince Basara to give the recording another try, the enemy forces attacked, leaving them with no choice but to do the whole thing while Basara was out on his usual singing sortie. Despite one member of the recording crew telling Suzuki that it's workable despite the scratchy quality, environmental and transmission noise, he dismisses it as trash, even threatening the band to compensate for expenses already incurred.
Akiko Houjoh drops in and offers to buy the record, knowing that it has the potential to be a hit despite Suzuki's warning that she'll be wasting time and money in doing so. He lets Akiko have it, leaving Fire Bomber (and later, Sound Force) in the hands of the Akiko Lips Recording Label.[1]
Suzuki later appears at the inauguration party for the Jamming Birds, bragging to Akiko that he will be handling the newly-formed civilian sound unit. As a potshot to the latter, Suzuki goes on to declare that since his company judges on ability rather than random chances, there is no doubt that the Jamming Birds will become popular enough to knock Fire Bomber off the charts.
With those words, Suzuki takes his leave. Akiko sees him off by sticking her tongue out while he wasn't looking.[2]
