Kinryu (金龍) was an elite variable fighter pilot in the Macross 7 television series. He was commander of Diamond Force and prior to that, a member of the Pink Pecker squadron alongside Ray Lovelock. He pilots a VF-17 Nightmare. He was killed in battle on planet Lux.
Personality & Character[]
As a commander, Kinryu looks out for his subordinates, often advising them to trust their instincts. When Physica S. Fulcrum, a member of Diamond Force, is killed in action, he tells Gamlin Kizaki that there's no time for depression as he wouldn't understand Physica's family's grief as he was still single.
Despite his serious demeanor, Kinryu is somewhat of a playboy, having been seen out on a date with both Battle 7 bridge officers Miho Miho and Sally Saint Ford. He would also occasionally tell Gamlin to pursue dating Mylene Flare Jenius.
History[]
We are introduced to Kinryu as one of the members of the Pink Pecker squadron, prior to joining Diamond Force aboard the Macross 7 fleet.[1][2] During a Protodeviln attack led by Sivil, Kinryu's Spiritia is absorbed and he falls into a coma / depression-like state,[3] from which he slowly recovers after hearing Basara's songs.
During the operation on planet Lux, Kinryu, despite still recovering from his condition, runs off and commandeers an Armored Thunderbolt. He unleashes a volley of missiles against the Protodeviln force, ejects his armor, and proceeds to attack one of Lord Gepelnitch's battleships. He fires one more volley from within and takes down the enemy spacecraft along with himself.[4]

- Kinryu holds Gamlin in high regard despite having trouble with his workaholic nature and impulsiveness in the line of duty.

- Though Kinryu respects Physica's concerns as a family man, he feels that the latter's lack of guts is a hindrance as an elite pilot.
