When May'n was three years old, she loved watching J-pop superstar Namie Amuro on television and also wanted to be an artist of her caliber. Since then, she participated in numerous singing competitions, musicals, and many more. She was selected several times as a representative of Aichi prefecture, and received a full-fledged audition at the age of nine. In 2003, when he was 13 years old, she won fourth place among 34,911 final contestants in the 28th Hori Pro-talent Scout Caravan "Love Music Audition", and received a chance to make her musical debut. In 2005, at the age of 15, she made a major debut using her real name Mei Nakabayashi and released three singles under the record label Universal Sigma.
She officially changed her stage name to May'n on January 1st, 2008. She also transferred to the record label FlyingDog, who were responsible for releasing the music of Sheryl Nome of Macross Frontier which broadcast on April of the same year. So a character single like Diamond Crevasse / Iteza☆Gogo Kuji Don't Be Late was announced as a song by Sheryl Nome "starring" May'n. Diamond Crevasse itself became a massive hit and helped propel May'n's career. Her first mini album, "May'n ☆ Street" won the second place in the Oricon weekly music chart.
May'n reunited with Yoko Kanno and Megumi Nakajima, for the single "Good job!" in January 2018 during the Macross series' 35th anniversary collaboration event with Tokyo Sky Tree, "Macross 35th BLUE MOON SHOWCASE at Tokyo Skytree". "Good Job!" was also created to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Macross Frontier's television broadcast.
