The New Macross-class (also known as Macross class transports) is a class of space ships first appearing in the anime, Macross 7. They are said to be able to host about 350,000 people[1] and they have replaced the Megaroad-class.

First New Macross-class ship was launched in September 2030. They have a disc-like shape, resembling roughly a spherical, domed city with engines. Later New Macross-class has been developed into Island Cluster-class; Macross Frontier main ship was an Island-class.[2][3]

New Macross-class ships are actually composed of two distinct, and independently mobile parts that usually are docked together except for emergencies. Those two parts are the military capital ship Battle-class Stealth Space Attack Carrier and the civilian City-class ship.[4]

Battle-class

The Battle-class are capital ships acting as the carrier with approximately 700 fighters and artillery platform for a super beam weapon and a number of lesser beam weapons. It can also transform into a humanoid shape[5]. The size of the Battle-class are about the same as or more than the original SDF-1 Macross.

City-class

City-class vessels are roughly clam-shaped. They resemble discs, with a fully functional cities on the surface, support mechanisms underneath, and mobile defensive shell.[6]
