Picket Patrol Ship (ピケット艦 Piketto-kan) is a scouting vessel featured in the Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series.[1]

Technology & Combat Characteristics

Picket Patrol Ships are small vessels that are deployed alongside larger vessels such as Thuverl-Salan-class Battleships.[2]

With a length of 500 meters, Picket Patrol Ships are the smallest ships belonging to the Zentradi. They can be used for supporting other ships and controlling the sorties of the Gnerl Fighter Pods.[3] The bridge of a Picket Patrol Ship is located on the top.

Each "wing" has a Central Wing Beta Launch Port Opening (中翼ベタ・ポっト発進口 Chū Tsubasa Beta Potto Hasshin Kuchi) and the stern has a single Launch Port Opening (ホポっト発進口 Potto Hasshin Kuchi), each of these are used for launching battle pods.[1]

History

Space War I

On February 7, 2009,[4] the launch day of the SDF-1 Macross, many Picket Patrol Ships folded into the orbit of Earth as part of Vrlitwhai Kridanik's fleet. Vrlitwhai ordered a reconnaissance mission consisting of one Picket Patrol Ship to investigate why a downed Supervision Army vessel hadn't left already. Sometime later, a second Picket Patrol Ship also joined the first one in a low-Earth-orbit. The two ships were detected by the ARMD-01 Space Carrier as gravitational and spectroscopic anomalies.

A Technical Official informed Captain Global of this and he went to the bridge of the Macross. By the time Captain Global got to the bridge, an automatic defense system that the Supervision Army installed in their ship, which Captain Global later called a "boobytrap", activated and the SDF-1 Macross's main cannon destroyed the two Picket Patrol Ships, much to the surprise of Vrlitwhai and Exsedol Folmo. (SDFM: "Boobytrap")
