Sound Force is an music-based tactical unit from the Macross 7 television series. The unit consisted of members of Fire Bomber, and rather than using conventional weaponry to combat the Protodeviln, Sound Force utilized "Song Energy" found in Basara Nekki and Mylene Flare Jenius singing voice.
Overview[]
Sound Force played a vital role in the latter half of the Macross 7. The unit was first proposed by Ray Lovelock and Dr. Chiba to Macross 7's Captain Maximilian Jenius to combat the growing threat of Protodeviln on the civilian populace on City 7. Ray originally proposed the group would consist of four members, including himself, Basara Nekki and Veffidas Feaze, but not Mylene Flare Jenius. They initially did not want Mylene to be a member, but once she proved herself during an attack inside of city 7 by piloting Basara's Valkyrie and singing in place of and along side him, Ray let her join. Basara also had misgiving with joining the group, not wanting to work for the military.[1] Veteran pilot Gamlin Kizaki originally found the idea of a music-based tactical unit ludicrous, insisting Basara's music had was ineffective against the mind-control attacks by the Protodevlin, but is later proven wrong.
Each member of the Sound Force received a special variable fighter, such as a custom VF-17 Nightmare and VF-11 Thunderbolt outfitted with advanced sound broadcasting equipment. Songs such as Planet Dance and Holy Lonely Night would often be projected by powerful Speaker Pods to weaken an enemy or ward off effects of mind control.
