The VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt (VF-11C フルアーマード・サンダーボルト) or commonly known as VF-11C Armored Pack, is an heavily armored variant of VF-11C Thunderbolt developed by General Galaxy. It first appeared in OVA Macross 7. One of the known pilot is Lt. Kinryu, and his unit designation is Armored 05.[1]
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
One of many specialized equipment developed for VF-11 Thunderbolt series, that focused on defense and firepower aspect for ground combat mission, called "APS-11 Protect Armor Pack".[2] This particular equipment is developed mainly from VF-0 Phoenix's "PWS-0X Reactive Armor", which its design inherited a lot of elements from its predecessor, such as the shield, chest, arms, legs, and its projectile resistance.[3] While the reactive shield looks like the VF-0 counterpart, it was larger and covering the VF-11's shield underneath it.[4] In addition, it also equipped with a pair large booster unit superior to the standard VF-11 Super Packs, mounted on its back, gave it extra mobility for the VF-11, and still remains even if the armor unit have been purged.[5] In terms of its firepower it was equipped with a large amount of HMMM-Mk 6 micro missiles, mounted on each shoulder, chest, and leg units.[2] In Addition it also equipped with 2-barelled twin beam cannon mounted on its shoulders, and grenade racks mounted on the hips. For ranged combat its equipped with a six-barelled Long Gunpod, that cannot be manually reloaded due to its large size.[2] Because of this, the APS-11 Protect Armor gave the VF-11 an impressive defensive capabilities, that can withstand Variable Fighter (VF) gunpod projectiles and barrage of missiles. In addition, the large amount of missiles also make it useful to takedown large amount of target simultaneously, especially during fleet battle. Despite its impressive features, it was difficult to handle by ordinary pilot, and costly to make, which is make it only produced in limited number.

Guns:
- 1 x Fixed Anti-Aircraft Pulse Laser Gun
- A single barrelled anti-aircraft weapon that shoot laser projectile, mounted center dorsal section in Fighter/GERWALK mode, becomes head turret in Battroid mode.
- 1 x GU-XS-06 long-range high-piercing-round gunpod
- A long range gun pod with multi-sensor located at the front section of the weapon, large magazine and motor power pack in the handle grip (for ground tactical missions in Battroid mode only)
- 4 x Shoulder-Mounted Beam Guns
- A pair of 2-barelled energy weaponry mounted on the shoulder unit, it also capable of firing 20 shot from energy pack before running out of energy.
Bombs & Missiles:
- 90+ x Hughes HMMM-Mk 6 (estimated count)
- A micro missile type of weapon that had high explosive power. It is estimated around 80+ missile mounted on the APS-11 Armor, 15 mounted in each shoulder launchers; 9 mounted on each torso launchers, 9 mounted on tri-barelled arm launchers; 12 mounted on two front and rear leg launchers; unknown missile count inside 8 x rear booster unit.[2]
- 6 x Hand Grenades
- Hand throwed grenades mounted in each hip section.[2]
Protective Equipment:
- 1 x Large Reactive Armor Shield
- A large shield unit mounted on VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt's left forearm.[2]
History[]
In September 2045 several of VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt were present during the siege of Macross 7 fleet by Varauta Army above the planet Lux orbit. One of the unit designated as Armored 05 was piloted by Lt Kinryu, and this particular unit manage to shot down several Fz-109A Elgersoln in the process. Unfortunately Armored 05 was destroyed, after it was charging inside one of Gigil's fleet Varauta Battleship and destroyed it from the inside.[1] Armored 05 effort was successful, as it prevent the Varauta's Fleet Command Battle Carrier from firing its main gun at Macross 7, and gave the Sound Force time to gave Gepelnitchi "culture shock", and Battle 7 to fire its main gun damaging the Varauta Army's fleet.[1] Later several of VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt were deployed to intercept a Zentradi Remnants fleet.[6]

Notes & Trivia[]
- Although the VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt first animated in Macross 7 TV show, the design first appeared in The Animation Special Macross Plus" Page 71.[7]
- During its debut on Episode 26 there are several inconsistent depiction of VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt
- After firing its micro missiles, the knee missiles still present despite being fired previously.
- Then after its armored part ejected, it was seen without its rective shield, and had Super Parts on its legs.
