VF-25F Super Messiah

The VF-25F Super Messiah (VF-25F スーパーメサイア VF-25F ˈSo͞opər Mesaia) is a variant of VF-25F Messiah featured in the television series Macross Frontier, and very briefly in the film Macross Frontier: The False Songstress. Known pilots are Henry Gilliam and Alto Saotome, designated Skull 4.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

A Super Pack equipment developed to enhance VF-25F Messiah overall performance, primarily for increased mobility, extra firepower, and better defensive capabilities. To achieve such goals the VF-25F, it was equipped with a specialized equipment consist a pair of booster unit, missile launchers, leg propellant tanks, and additional armor throughout its body for extra protection. This particular equipment turns the VF-25F into a high mobility unit, packed with additional firepower compared to the base unit. In addition, the Super Pack also increased the VF-25F thrust power, that can reach 30G in instant acceleration.[1] Like the Super Packs of the past decades, it also can be discarded via explosive bolt in case the payload is empty or damaged. Though, unlike the Super Parts of the past, it also can be temporarily ejected and combined together, in case any allied unit needed the equipment.[Footnote 1] as Due to the usefulness of this equipment, it became a standard equipment for most of VF-25 fielded by the SMS.[2] Despite the advantage that the equipment offer, its fuel consumption can be drained in an instant, as full acceleration can drain the VFs fuel in just 120 second. Which become the Super Pack requires certain level of skills, in order to operate it more effectively.[1]

Guns

  • 2 x Mauler RÖV-127C 12.7mm Beam Gun
    • A pair of beam gun mounted center dorsal section in Fighter/GERWALK mode, and becomes head turret in Battroid mode.
  • 2 x Remington ES-25A 25mm High-Speed Machine Gun
    • A high rate of fire machine gun mounted on each side of the VF's intake unit in Fighter/GERWALK mode, and on rotating hip mounts in Battroid mode
  • 1 x GU-17A 58mm Gunpod
    • A five barrel gatling type firearm that shoot 58mm caliber round, commonly used by the VF-25 Messiah series.

Optional Guns

  • 2 x Mauler RÖV-25 25mm Beam Machine Gun
    • A high rate of fire beam machine gun mounted on each side of the VF's intake unit in Fighter/GERWALK mode, and on rotating hip mounts in Battroid mode.
  • 1 x Howard GU-17V Gunpod
    • A modified GU-17A Gunpod designed to combat the Vajra by using specifically designed MDE rounds.
  • 1 x Large-Bore Liquid Plasma Cannon
    • A direct energy weapon that boast high firepower, capable of shooting down its target in a single shot. This weapon commonly used by Zentradi's Nousjadeul-Ger battle suit.

Bombs & Missiles

  • 6 x Bifors CIMM-3A Micro Missile Launcher pod
    • A triple micro missile launcher that mounted on each side of the Super Pack's booster unit. It also can carry the MDE Micro Missiles if the situation demands.[Footnote 2]
  • 2 x Remmington HMM-5A Micro Missile CIWS Launcher Pod
    • A pair of micro missile launcher mounted on the top side of the VF's fuselage, and located over the shoulders in Battroid mode. Each of this missiles can carry up to 21 missiles per launcher pod.[Footnote 2]

Melee Weapon

  • 1 x AK/VF-M9 Assault Knife
    • A physical melee weapon that powered by the VF's Pin-Point Barrier system, which gave it greater penetration than other similar weapon type. This weapon was stored inside the lower section of the VF's shield.

Protective Equipment

  • 1 x Anti Projectile Shield
    • A shield type equipment used to block enemy projectile. It was mounted center rear dorsal fuselage in Fighter mode, mounted on the left forearm in GERWALK or Battroid mode.

    • A energy wire used to tow captured Vajra or friendly VFs.
  • SPS-25S/MF25 Super Pack
    • A specialized Super Pack system used by VF-25 Messiah series, mounted throughout the VF's airframe. This particular Super Pack consist of a pair of booster unit mounted on each wing section, a pair missile launcher on the VF's upper fuselage, additional armor for the chest, hips, lower legs and Shield.

Variant[]

  • VF-25F Super Messiah (Henry Gilliam/Alto Saotome Custom)
    • A customized VF-25F used by SMS Frontier Branch' Skull Squadron, painted in white body and red accents livery. This unit initially piloted by Henry Gilliam, but it was later assigned to Alto Saotome after Henry's death.

History[]

In A.D 2059 a VF-25F equipped with Super Pack was deployed during a Vajra attack on Macross Frontier fleet. This unit piloted piloted by Henry Gilliam as part of S.M.S' Skull Squadron, manage to perform admirably against the attacking Vajras. However his unit was forced to discard this equipment when a Vajra L-Type manage to breach Island 1, and he tried to engage the said Vajra, but was killed in action. After Gilliam's death, the VF-25F was assigned to Alto Saotome, and become his unit throughout his career as SMS pilot. [3]

One of the first deployment of Alto's VF-25F, on an Asteroid belt, where the VF was used on a mock battle against Pixie Team's Queadluun-Rhea. During the battle his unit was ambushed by Vajra L-Type, but due to training battle he forced to engage the Vajra in melee combat, since his Gunpod aren't armed with live ammunition. While initially his unit struggles to fight the Vajra, eventually he manage to destroyed it, by shooting it with energy rifle gained from a derelict Nousjadeul-Ger in the vicinity. [4] Sometimes later Alto's unit was deployed in an Operation to save Macross Galaxy's Dulfilm & Kaitos from Vajra ambush, but this equipment was ditched by Alto, in order to infiltrate the Vajra battleship and saved the captured Luca Angeloni's RVF-25 Super Messiah.[5]

  • In Episode 4 of the TV show, Alto's unit was seen with Nousjadeul-Ger's Liquid Plasma Gun, however its design was strangely similiar with Queadluun-Rhea's Bifors AA-76/QD Anti-Ship Cannon instead of the actual design for the weapon.
