Vahla Ena (バーラエナ Barra ena), also known as the Galaxy Whales, are a species that migrates through the universe to absorb energy. Each season, they always stop around planet Zola, and are subsequently poached for a high profit.
History[]
Every season, the whales come to planet Zola to absorb the energy around them as they migrate throughout space. Because the energy they emit is useful for powering the engines of spaceships, poachers come each season along with them, stealing Battroids to use to capture them. This, however, is very dangerous, because the energy they emit is so potent, it often causes the ships nearby to malfunction, often causing death from the destruction of the ship.
The Galactic Academy of planet Zola has researched the whales for a very long time. In doing so, they determined that the composition of the whales is similar to the organic energy of plants, meaning they're not animals, however, this was later disproved. They've also studied the wavelengths emitted by the whales, and have discovered that they have one universal wavelength that only varies if there are sunspots to distort it.
When Basara Nekki travels to space and sings to the whales, they emit a never-recorded wavelength, which immediately interests Lawrence, who studies them. Upon noting this, he determines that the whales were in fact, singing along with Basara, and are an intelligent animal species. Liza Hoilie ridicules the idea, however, declaring that it's impossible because the Galactic Academy also proved that the whales can't emit sound, which was also later disproved.
The whales live for 7,000 years and continue to travel throughout the galaxy until they run out of energy. The Great White Whale is the leader of their flock, and its job is to lead the whales who are ready to die to Zola, so they may rest at the Cemetary of the Warriors. When they die, they return energy to Zola, affecting the planet. One such effect is when Elma Hoilie takes Basara to a natural hot spring because the water there has a mysterious ability of healing even the most severe of wounds when he was critically injured.
When the whales have stored enough energy, they can create a new whale. The Great White Whale emits "red energy spores", while the normal whales emit "white energy spores". When the two "spores" fuse together, a new whale is created.
Notes & Trivia[]
- The design of the Vahla Ena may have become the model for the Zentradi army's battleship, the Nupetiet-Vergnitzs (V VI III I).
